Research Interests: • Pathogenesis of restenosis and aneurysm • Inflammatory chemokines involved intimal hyperplasia and aneurysm • Cross talk among smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, adventitial cells, and circulating progenitor cells • Endothelial progenitor cells and circulating angiogenic cells • Gene (viral and non-viral) and Cell therapy Research Projects: My projects focus on elucidating the mechanism underlying vascular smooth muscle cells-mediated injury response. Specifically, my study is to understand how stressed vascular smooth muscle cells cross talk with vascular wall cells and circulating cells in order to orchestrate vascular injury response using angioplasty models, and develope gene and cell therapies to speed up recovery of blood vessels.

My major research has been focused on the pathogenesis of vascular diseases including intimal hyperplasia and aneurysm. Specifically, I focus on chemokines expression, cross-talk among smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, adventitial cells, and circulating progenitor cells during neointima formation in vitro and in vivo. In addition, I also put my effort to develop gene therapies against intimal hyperplasia using polyelectrolyte multilayers/DNA-coated catheter balloons, and cell therapy for a speedy recovery of injured blood vessels.
