Julie Lammers

Julie is the Executive Vice President of American Student Assistance (ASA) [now Britebound]. In this role, Julie serves as a key executive leader driving the organization’s mission to transform education systems and create lasting societal change. Julie spearheads initiatives that address systemic barriers in education across the U.S., cultivates innovative career programs for middle and high school students, and advocates for the importance of education access for all. Julie also provides management and oversight for multiple business functions including philanthropy, policy, research, marketing, and communications.

Responsible for ASA external efforts to drive change in our mission space including our philanthropic giving, public policy and advocacy work. Working as part of ASA's senior leadership team, in charge of policy based research activities including developing, researching and writing policy papers; tracking and analyzing proposed federal and state legislation; advocating for ASA's legislative positions to elected officials and other influencers; cultivating relationships to enhance opportunities for advocacy and grantmaking; setting strategy for philanthropic giving; and coordinating grantmaking to drive high impact.

Responsible for creating and promoting a legislative, public policy and advocacy agenda that promotes both the organization and our policy priorities. Part of ASA's senior leadership team. Responsible for developing a thought leadership platform for advocacy issues. In charge of policy based research activities including developing, researching and writing policy papers. In charge of tracking and analyzing proposed federal and state legislation, writing legislation, and advocating for ASA's legislative positions to members of Congress, the Trump Administration, and members of the Massachusetts legislature. Serve as the main point of contact for elected officials related to ASA’s business and policy needs. Oversee the operations and strategic direction of ASA's College Planning Centers and community outreach activities.

Responsible for the development and implementation of a government relations strategy that will help expand the organization's reach on higher education policy issues. In charge of tracking and analyzing proposed federal and state legislation and developing position statements and needed response. Responsible for attending legislative hearings and meetings as well as meetings with key stakeholders, elected officials and industry groups. Serve as the main point of contact for elected officials related to ASA’s business and policy needs. Work with community groups to maintain and/or expand ASA’s role in the community.

Congressional Aide and Office Manager for Senator Edward M. Kennedy and Senator Paul Kirk. Handled policy issues in the district office focusing on Education (K-12 to Higher Education), the Environment, Social Security, Women's Issues, Arts and National Parks. Severed as Senator Kennedy's liaison to constituents on these issues. Researched local and national issues, prepared briefs, memoranda and speeches for Senator Kennedy. Worked with local constituencies to evaluate current national policies and help them navigate assistance from the federal government. Performed setup, logistics, advance, and staff work for the Senator's public appearances, speeches, meetings and events. Managed the day to day operations for a staff of 12.

Office Assistant: Facilitated meetings with local elected officials from state, city and federal government to address the needs of the university. Advance for President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore: assisted in preparing for the President’s multiple trips to Massachusetts and the Vice President’s 2000 presidential campaign trips Special projects: Assisted with setup for the 2000 Presidential Debate at UMass Boston, organized university wide food and toy drives
