Julia Huston
Consultant
About
I consult to nonprofit organizations both directly and through SOAR Management Consulting Group, a nonprofit providing pro bono management consulting services to small and midsize Greater Boston nonprofits and public agencies facing planning and operational challenges associated with organizational growth and change. I am particularly interested in board engagement, board development, and governance issues as well as legal and strategic planning. These interests arose from my service on a number of nonprofit boards over the years, including chairing the boards of the Boston Bar Association, Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts, Greater Boston Legal Services, and Equal Justice Coalition of the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation. Nonprofit consulting is my “third act” following a 27-year legal career. I specialized in intellectual property law with a focus on trademark, copyright, and false advertising, and was fortunate to hold leadership positions in the Boston-area law firms in which I worked. Prior to that, I had a brief career teaching students with severe special needs. I enjoy volunteering my time for a variety of causes, and am particularly active in Indivisible, the UU Plant-Based Eating Club (housed at the First Unitarian Universalist Society in Newton), and other groups working on agricultural reform and climate change.
