This past 2026 academic year I taught Cognitive Processes, Cognitive Development, & the Psychology of Agency & Action. I am honoured to also supervise advanced BA and BSc. research students in our department's Honours Program covering the topics of Language Development, Self Efficacy Mediation, and the Development of Agency.

The first francophone president in the institution’s 187-year history, I provided energetic CEO leadership for the university reporting to a distinguished Board of Regents, and managed an executive team of vice-presidents and academic leaders. During my term, the university (2,300 FT students; 450 FT staff; 83 M; 72 acres; 218 M endowment 2nd highest per student capita of Canadian universities) experienced continual enrolment growth, accelerated program development, zero long-term debt, and historic levels of private and government funding. Key successes under my leadership: ▫️raised 83.4 million dollars (2020-2023 representing historical fundraising highs for MtA) ▫️developed 30 new academic programs—a level of that is unprecedented for MtA ▫️oversaw year-to-year enrollment increases in domestic and international students ▫️navigated the university successfully through two plus years of the pandemic ensuring that the university supported a dynamic mixture of synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities ▫️championed a students-first model of engagement on such issues as mental health and wellness, financial aid, EDIA advocacy, food security, and environmental sustainability ▫️led the university with trust and respect proudly building excellent labour relations with all employee groups, including the faculty union. During the pandemic, we secured new collective agreements with all major campus unions ▫️inspired a new vision for our learning and discovery spaces, from classroom and lab modifications to the largest capital project (54 M) in MtA's history for the Hub for Innovation and Learning (library renovation in development) ▫️established two named schools and a new division for distance learning ▫️advanced a community-engaged learning focus for community engagement classification ▫️grew student scholarships, including MtA’s Rhodes Scholarship record with the highest per capita in the British Commonwealth ▫️maintained a #1 Maclean's university ranking

Future NB / Future Wabanaki is a provincial movement created by engaged stakeholders such as students, educational institutions, Indigenous peoples, private industry, not-for-profit organizations and government leaders. With co-chair, RBC Vice-President, Janice McNutt Lanctin we worked together to foster experiential education across the province by: ▫️Providing students with a variety of experiential learning opportunities with employers prior to graduation from high school, community college or university. ▫️Strengthening the job-readiness of students related to their field of study, strengths and interests. Supporting growth, recruitment and talent retention for New Brunswick employers. The Vision: Experiential education is embedded in New Brunswick’s education system from early childhood to post-secondary. The Mission: Fostering strong partnerships to create and invest in accessible, high-quality experiential learning opportunities for all students across New Brunswick. Strategic goals: Future NB is focused on 4 strategic goals that create the pathways of success for students and employers. 1. Building capacity Secure the structure and resources to adequately support the vision of Future NB. 2. Success for students Create accessible and meaningful experiential learning opportunities for all students. 3. Supports for employers Educate and assist all employers in offering high-quality experiential learning opportunities to all students. 4. Common platform Leverage technology to support, inform and connect institutions, students and employers.

We positioned social innovations as new concepts, ideas, and practices that address unmet societal needs and improve people’s lives through social action. We developed social innovators to be adaptive entrepreneurial thinkers who take risks, build social enterprises, and use social capital for economic growth and talent development. As Special Advisor and Executive Lead for Social Innovation, I provided strategic direction for TMU's social innovation portfolio and established the university’s first Office of Social Innovation (OSI). My responsibilities and actions included: ▫️Establishing an energized, cohesive vision for social innovation at the university by integrating research, startups, and experiential learning models ▫️Developing engagement strategies to support the university’s social innovation ecosystems and best practices, including via the University's Zone network and Yeates School of Graduate Studies ▫️Advancing academic and social innovation research networks at the university, local community, national and international levels (Oxford Global Challenge, ShapeLabTO, SocialxChange) ▫️Coordinating a partnership with Ashoka U (Washington) Ryerson/TMU was Canada’s first Ashoka Changemaker campus ▫️Developing a set of recommendations for a social innovation curriculum ▫️Developing a social innovation undergraduate internship program and social innovation programming for the School of Graduate Studies and the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education ▫️Collaborating with the Vice-President Research and Innovation and Assistant Vice-President International to expand external social innovation networks with industry and international university partnerships (Innovation Norway, University Northampton, UK) ▫️Expanding community partnerships (City of Toronto, Institute for Canadian Citizenship) ▫️Leading the 2017-2018 institutional renewal process for the AshokaU Changemaker campus designation (renewal successfully granted)

As psychology’s national voice, CPA helps ensure that the discipline and profession contribute to the health and well-being of Canadians. The organization supports education and training in psychology, the development and application of research, and the accessibility of psychological practice. One of CPA’s 30+ sections, the Development Psychology Section (DPS) is organized to advance our knowledge in Developmental Psychology, to influence public policy, and to provide opportunities for professional, educational, and societal development in our area. Appointed 2008, re-appointed 2013 SSHRC Leaders are senior university administrators appointed by their university presidents to serve as points of contact between SSHRC and their respective universities. SSHRC Leaders provide a stable, ongoing channel of communication between their institutions and SSHRC. SSHRC Leaders and SSHRC managers meet periodically, both in person and by teleconference (Source: SSHRC website) As Leader, my responsibilities and actions included: ▫️Sharing new information with TMU's Vice-President Research and Innovation and her VPRI office team around new policy and program developments ▫️Gathering information and ideas from the university SSH community that feed into the development of SSHRC policies and programs ▫️Working with other SSHRC Leaders in sharing best practices from across our Canadian university network

The Faculty of Arts is a large and diverse faculty of 4,500 full-time students, 260 full-time faculty and staff, 13 BA programs, and 7 MA/PhD programs (2016 figures). It encompasses the humanities (Arts & Contemporary Studies; English; History; Languages and Culture; Philosophy) and the social sciences (Criminology; Economics & Finance; Environmental Sustainability; Geographic Information Systems; Psychological Science; Politics & Governance; Sociology). As dean my focus was on academic excellence through research, innovative programming, and infrastructure development. To ensure academic excellence I supported the hiring of 36 international tenure-track faculty members across eleven departments. I led efforts to increase external research funding for discovery and HQP (172% growth), and offered experiential learning opportunities through research centres and community engagement projects, initiatives which helped prepare students for their post-graduate lives. I put the accent on innovative programming (75% and 37% enrollment growth at the undergraduate and graduate levels) that gave students transferable labour-ready skills and supported them in becoming global citizens. The faculty’s city-building agenda utilized Toronto as a learning laboratory where our initiatives supported and sustained the urban forest, engaged external communities on health and governance, and built sustainability through the Arts EcoAction plan. I co-founded and co-led the Social Venture Zone that incubated ideas that allowed students to learn by transforming their local and global ideas into tangible community actions (new start-up venture projects and business partnerships). Contributing to TMU's reputation-building, with my team, I also led the university's successful bid to host the 2017 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences (with 10,014 delegates became the largest in the Federations's 86-year history). I was recruited in 2003 as an external Chair with the ambitious mandate to build a comprehensive Psychology department (except for a minor, the department had no academic programs). I provided “ground up” leadership for the development of BA (2006), MA (2007), and PhD (2009) programs, and new certificates--unprecedented growth in Canada's PSE. During this period, I also provided leadership for: ▫️Recruiting 23 international tenured & tenure-track faculty (80% new positions) ▫️Developing new research infrastructure, including 35 research labs and centers with over 20,000 SqF of state-of-the-art facilities for experimental and clinical science research. ▫️Establishing Canada's 1st Inter-Professional Psychology Training clinic at St. Michael’s Hospital ▫️Securing CPA accreditation for the Clinical MA/PhD program ▫️Helping raise the department’s profile to a top-ranking unit that attracts over 3,000 applications (2011 figures) to the BA program (150 BA seats), and over 250 applications (16 MA/PhD seats) In addition to my core Chair responsibilities, I also: ▫️Taught Introduction to Psychology and a Research Practicum Course, which I developed to expand students' experiential learning opportunities ▫️Founded and directed the Children, Health, Infancy, Learning, Development Lab (CHILD) and supervised BA, MA, and PhD students in Psychological and Clinical Science ▫️Advanced research on infant attention, social-emotional communication, and locomotion ▫️Served as Team Leader for a TMU-St. Michael’s Hospital Partnership ▫️Co-Chaired the National Experts Advisory Committee on Children’s Well Being for the Public Health Agency of Canada ▫️Served on TMU's Board of Governors (elected) ▫️Served on TMU's Senate (elected) ▫️Served on review panels for the Society for Research in Child Development and the International Society for Infant Studies ▫️Served on the Biological Systems and Functions Grants Committee, NSERC See CV for full list of contributions.

The Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences promotes research and teaching for the advancement of an inclusive, democratic and prosperous society. With a membership now comprising over 160 universities, colleges and scholarly associations, the Federation represents a diverse community of 91,000 researchers and graduate students across Canada. The Federation organizes Canada’s largest academic gathering, the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, bringing together more than 10,000 participants each year. (Source: Federation Website) As a Board member, my responsibilities and actions included: ▫️Contributing to the dynamic growth and engagement of the humanities and social sciences in Canada ▫️Advising the national executive on current trends and discussions among large associations, in my capacity representing the Canadian Psychological Association ▫️Participating in the annual Congress and promoting the SSH community The idea to bring Congress to Ryerson University (TMU) was born during my time on the Board. We were very proud of our successful bid to host the Congress in 2017.

UPEI (4,400 students; 2003 figures) has a long and proud tradition of providing exceptional liberal arts and post graduate education to students from PEI, the Maritimes, and beyond. The Psychology department included an impressive community of scholars and teachers who made an important impact in the lives of our students. I hold a very special fondness for UPEI and owe the university a great debt of gratitude for giving me my start in the academy in 1994 and offering me my first significant administrative leadership role in January of 2002. UPEI today (2024) has grown exponentially but maintains a rich focus on students and the history of ideas that was core to both SDU and PWC (1969 merger to create UPEI). I continue to follow UPEI with pride. As Chair, my responsibilities and actions included: ▫️Reviewing curriculum and teaching assignments ▫️Supporting faculty renewal and recruitment (2 tenure-track professorships) ▫️Advocating for additional infrastructure and operating funds ▫️Completing a department self-study with external review ▫️Advancing the role of psychology in the liberal arts and ensuring its vibrant connection to the humanities and social sciences

I taught an undergraduate child development course during the summer session at UMASS (Boston campus). I left for my first full-time tenure-track position at UPEI following this sessional position.
