Joshua Woo
Executive Director and Counsel @ Goldman Sachs
About
I am a data protection and cybersecurity lawyer. I most recently led Goldman Sachs' legal coverage for AI, cybersecurity and data protection in APAC across 11 markets. I was previously with Dentons Rodyk in Singapore and Mayer Brown in Hong Kong, earning recognition as an ALB Hong Kong Rising Star (2024) and Managing IP “Rising Star” (2021–2022) and “Notable Practitioner” (2023). Key work highlights include my involvement in Committee of Inquiry proceedings arising out of Singapore’s largest cyber-breach, where 1.5 million patients’ data was stolen, and the IP due diligence aspects of a S$235 million investment in a global experience entertainment company specialising in the exploitation of movie IP. I graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2017. During my time in law school, I was keenly interested in IP and mediation. During my semester abroad at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, I topped Professor Peter Magg’s course on Trade Marks and Unfair Competition, and came in 2nd for the College’s LLM Negotiation Competition. I also had the privilege of representing NUS in several international mediation and negotiation competitions. I was part of the team that won 1st Place in the International Division at the 2015 INADR 14th International Law School Mediation Championships in London. I won Best Mediator and Best Mediation Management individual awards at the 2017 Lex Infinitum Dispute Resolution Competition, where NUS was crowned overall best team.

Senior Associate
Singapore
Senior Associate in Dentons Rodyk’s Intellectual Property and Technology Department. A strong team player who is highly independent, running matters autonomously and seeking strategic advice from partners on file when necessary. Areas of work include both non-contentious IP, data protection and TMT matters, as well as contentious IP matters such as trade mark and patent litigation. Key career highlights include advising the public healthcare IT service provider in Committee of Inquiry proceedings arising out of Singapore’s largest cyber-breach, where 1.5 million patients’ data was stolen, and acting for a government-owned company in a S$235 million investment in an exhibitions company specialising in the exploitation of movie IP.

Singapore
As a Personal Trainer in the now-defunct California Fitness Gym (Raffles Place) I was tasked with both training clients and selling PT packages. During my short stint here, I consistently exceeded my sales targets, achieving $8000 in sales in my first month.
