My teams are not only vital to design and build of the Traction system for electric trains and people movers, they have a wealth of knowledge keeping these systems running in the fields for decades. With vehicles designed to carry humans for millions of miles without any safety concerns, process and quality are key. Design and Small-Scale Production of Environmental Monitors - Speck - Designed a low-cost, residential air quality monitor. Speck uses a graphic LCD with a touch screen to communicate data to its users as well as wifi and a data storage solution of my own design. After many pilot studies, Speck was patented, and commercialized with over 5k units sold. - CATTFish and Flamingo - Designed low-cost water quality monitors for residential and research purposes. Both monitors utilize custom waterproof sensors and data storage/transfer protocols of my design. After many pilot studies, both units were licensed to an outside firm by the university. - BreatheCam - Designed and implemented a network of outdoor time-lapse cameras around the city of Pittsburgh to monitor air quality. Designs ranged from IP cameras with custom mounting solutions to complete solutions using point and shoot cameras and embedded computers. Design and Small Pilot Study Implementation of Educational Tools - MindfulNest - Designed manipulatives to teach preschool children coping skills and how to be more mindful. Manipulatives were designed to pair with a tablet over Bluetooth to enhance the experience. - Message From Me - Designed self contained kiosks to send picture and audio messages from preschool children to their guardians. - HearMe Kiosks - Designed story telling kiosks to disseminate youth stories around the city of Pittsburgh. Design and Construction of Electric Vehicles - Community Conversions - Converted three cars to full-electric drive systems while designing a conversion kit side-by-side with local mechanics. - Super-Capacitor Research - Converted one car, and one pedal bicycle to a full-electric drive system with a hybrid energy management system containing both lead-acid batteries and Super-Capacitors.
