My current research interests are in phagocyte biology, tissue regeneration, nutrition, and in vitro disease modeling. My PhD work utilizes 3D hydrogels as an in vitro tool to study questions relevant to cell biology (i.e. how ions, membrane potential, and osmolarity influence cell behavior).

This experience was an intensive 10 week research program/project in Neural Tissue Engineering under the supervision of Dr. David Shreiber - professor at Rutger's University. Project Title: Encapsulated mesenchymal stem cells attenuate astrocyte activation induced by in vitro ischemia and lipopolysaccharide stimulation Research skills acquired: literature review, experimental design and analysis, technical writing, and presentation (BMES conference and NJ Stem Cell Symposium) Lab skills acquired: cell culture, fluorescence microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA
