Systems Engineering Intern
Los Angeles, CA
Apex is redefining satellite manufacturing with productized, mass-produced satellite platforms that power critical national security missions and next-generation commercial constellations. • Performed ray-trace simulations for total ionizing dose (TID) radiation analysis and shielding optimization of the GEO spacecraft bus. • Built a python script that simulates the state of charge/power budget of the spacecraft under different power states, attitude profiles, and number of orbits. • Worked with thermal, avionics, and mechanical to create the initial footprint of the flight computer chassis in CAD. • Built a template for handling requirements on Flow. • Performed reliability analysis, dipole moment calcs, etc.

R&D Engineering Intern
Aliso Viejo, California, United States
SpyGlass Pharma is an ophthalmic biotech startup developing the world's first, IOL-mounted, controlled release drug delivery platform to treat glaucoma in patients undergoing cataract surgery. • Performed heat transfer and structural/fatigue calculations to identify the best material to use for the thermal heat press. • Created compression force deflection (CFD) curves for potential silicone sheets for production use. • Designed syringe holders and prototyped with resin printers in compliance with FDA quality and CNC machining standards for technicians to use when mixing material in a Flacktek Speedmixer. • Proposed and tested the idea of involving refrigeration of liquid silicone rubber when making parts to reduce operator involvement and manufacturing time. • Documented studies and work through reports following strict GDP standards. • Created engineering drawings of parts for documentation. • Measured flatness of stainless steel/copper plates with the Keyence LMX. • Performed force testing with load cell. • Reached out to manufacturers to get quotes for parts that met certain quality certifications.

Aerodynamics Design Engineer
Riverside, California, United States
• Developed a full aerodynamic design package for the car through Matlab and SolidWorks that reduced drag and increased downforce by 50% from previous year’s package for research and development. • Executed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) testing through SolidWorks Flow Simulation for analysis of airflow on different regions of the car, as well as FEA simulations through Ansys for analysis of wing structure. • Collaborated with the composites team to manufacture front and rear wings through vacuum bag molding carbon fiber for the development of the car for competition. • Created Matlab scripts that allows users to obtain CL/CD values and plot them with respect to temperature at a set speed using results and parameters obtained from CFD simulations.

Research & Technology (R&D) Engineering Intern
Riverside, California, United States
• Submitted an invention disclosure on a proposal that involved researching and testing the utilization of thermal imaging to detect leaks in vacuum bags to prevent positive pressure from occurring and damaging a part while in an autoclave. • Collaborated with leadership to develop a new management system for parts, materials, and processes across the R&D labs through the utilization of Excel, Trello, and Azure DevOps which can reduce the amount of daily meetings by 50%. • Assisted the development of a print request system and a handbook with procedures and design constraints for employees to follow when designing their parts and using the Stratasys F900 3D printer. • Implemented CATIA to redesign 3D printed G400 seal retainer tooling to aid in manufacturing. • Laid up carbon epoxy pre-preg thermoset composite materials with Virtek laser projection systems and vacuum bagged on aircraft part jigs to be cured with autoclaves in developing parts for research and mechanical testing. • Fabricated thermoplastic materials through cutting and seam welding plies, vacuum bagging, and creating k-type thermocouples to form parts to be consolidated with the oven for research.

Lead Injector Design Engineer / Founding Member
Riverside, California, United States
• Helped recruit 20-30 members and rebuild the liquid rocket engine team from being discontinued. • Managed a sub-team as well as worked with the combustion chamber, fluids systems, and ground systems sub-teams to develop a pintle injector design for a liquid rocket engine. • Sized a bipropellant liquid rocket engine through the use of NASA Chemical Equilibrium Applications (CEA) and Excel and created a solid CAD model to run CFD simulations on SolidWorks for analysis. • Created a preliminary physical injector water flow testing apparatus to observe the behavior of the propellant streams at the exit of the injector.

L'Space Mission Concept Academy
• Implemented SOLIDWORKS and Siemens NX to design an unmanned aerial vehicle that can fly through the atmosphere of Venus to record data and conduct scientific investigations under a theoretical budget of $250 million, a weight constraint of 172 kg, and a size constraint that doesn’t exceed 23.6” x 27.5” x 35.4”. • Worked with a group of 10 students consisting of an engineering, science, and business team to create a preliminary design report (PDR) on an unmanned aerial vehicle concept.

Quality Engineering Intern
El Segundo, California, United States
• Dispositioned non-conformance reports (NCR) for the Boeing Starliner. • Constructed a part through layering carbon fiber composites and vacuum bagging for educational purposes. • Created Excel macros as tools to save operation time and improve capability to perform data comparison. • Generated reports for the program manager and accomplished safety checks for various floors in the building. • Hosted/coordinated meetings with Boeing employees/engineers and other interns to discuss projects and agendas. • Attended vibration testing for satellites.
