Working on Northguard, a C++ distributed log platform being developed to replace LinkedIn’s Apache Kafka infrastructure.

• Led adoption of stream processing at LinkedIn, helping launch the company’s stream processing platform now powering thousands of applications across nearline data standardization, incremental search indexing, and machine learning inference. • Built LinkedIn’s first production 20-node Samza cluster and scaled it to more than 30,000 servers across multiple data centers. • Automated deployment and configuration of ZooKeeper clusters across the company, improving consistency and operational efficiency. • Developed internal services and infrastructure tooling in Java, Python, C, and shell, using Gradle, CMake, and Autotools. • Supported critical production systems including Samza, Kafka, and ZooKeeper through software development and on-call operations.

• Helped productionize Kafka at LinkedIn during its early rollout, including integration of core features and tuning for production-scale workloads. • Evaluated early stream processing architectures, including cache contention in co-located Samza and Kafka deployments and disaster recovery design for a third production data center. • Built and productionized early Kafka monitoring and correctness systems, including Kafka Audit. • Supported LinkedIn’s core data systems in production, including Kafka, Search, Graph, Espresso, Databus, and ZooKeeper.

• Built the initial implementation of mpifileutils, a parallel file utility suite now used at major HPC facilities for large-scale data movement and multi-petabyte file operations. • Helped shape the early design of LLNL’s Flux, a next-generation resource and job management framework for HPC systems with awareness of network, I/O, and power constraints.

• Developed enhancements to Slurm and Torque/Moab to support specialized HPC cluster requirements and improve scheduler behavior. • Performed specialized systems engineering and administration on large-scale HPC platforms, including restart software for a 2+ megawatt system. • Built the organization’s first Git-based source hosting service, helping modernize development workflows beyond RCS and SVN. • Established and maintained the open-source GitHub organization for collaborative HPC software development.

• Developed and maintained features for GCCS-J, a complex application spanning a J2EE mid-tier, JavaScript and Swing frontends, and multiple integrated data sources. • Built a Struts-based KML import capability using Java Topology Suite, Hibernate, and PostgreSQL. • Developed geospatial visualization components, including APIs and rendering logic for tessellation and directional overlays on a 3D map. • Built custom Jira plugins to streamline compliance with CMMI Level 5 development processes.

Attempted to bootstrap a company for a cloud-based remote desktop software program we developed.
