Role included writing international, business and China news headlines, editing reporters’ copy and recording voice-overs. During 2009, the News team covered events such as the ethnic violence in Xinjiang province, the mass celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the PRC, China's efforts to tackle the ongoing global financial crisis and recession, the H1N1 influenza global pandemic, the deadliest bushfires in Australian history, US criticism of China's internet controls, the death of pop icon Michael Jackson, a unilateral ceasefire in the Gaza War and the inauguration of US President Barack Obama.

In a freelance role, wrote HR news, company profiles, as well as sports news and features on areas of industry growth. Produced a series of articles on companies sponsoring the Olympics, focusing on their human resources strategy ahead of the Games. Companies profiled included Lenovo, Samsung, General Electric, McDonalds, Coca-Cola, Adidas, Air China and Omega. During this time, also worked as a News Service Editor on the Beijing 2008 Test Events, and took Mandarin language classes.

Wrote features, profiles and sports news. Around 2,000 articles published. Assignments included coverage from the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan, the 2003 University Games in South Korea and the annual Hong Kong Rugby Sevens.The role involved co-operation with a large network of local contacts, identifying graphic or photographic opportunities to accompany articles, producing complementary material and management of multiple assignments under tight deadlines.
