Jonas Weickert

I advise clients in all IP matters and enable them to harness their IP. A special focus of my work lies on biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, industrial engineering and automotive engineering. A lot of my work is contentious matter, often in the context of international litigation cases. I defend and invalidate patents at the EPO and in Germany. Furthermore, right from the start of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in 2023 I was involved in over a dozen infringement and nullity cases, and our firm continues with its strong position at the UPC. The experience from two-sided proceedings allows me to provide better and more targeted service to our clients when drafting and prosecuting patents, managing portfolios, and providing IP full service.

My key areas at Wuesthoff & Wuesthoff involved mechanical engineering, medical engineering, electronics, process engineering and physics. I drafted and prosecuted patent applications for more than 20 different clients, mostly before the GPTO and the EPO, but also - in collaborarion with national patent attorneys - before other national offices such as the USPTO, the SIPO and the JPO. Furthermore, I was regularly involved in German and European opposition and appeal cases as well as in patent infringement cases.

Until December 2016 I was working as patent professional, since January 2017 as Trainee Patent Attorney. My key areas involved mechanical engineering, manufacturing technology, electronics and power engineering. In 2017, I was responsible for direct support of six small and medium-sized enterprises as clients. I was working both in the field of classical intellectual property services and in the area of strategic innovation management. My tasks involved writing patent applications and responses to office actions, preparing patent searches, performing strategic patent and innovation workshops, and supporting the client in portfolio management.

Leader of a research subgroup of 7 researchers in the Department of Physics, University of Konstanz. My subgroup was interested in fundamental interface processes in organic and hybrid solar cells. These devices rely on a manifold of functionalities implemented due to the electronic and optical properties of interfaces between their different compounds. I am grateful for support through a postdoc fellowship of the Carl Zeiss Foundation for the project "Dynamic Processes at Controlled Interfaces in Excitonic Solar Cells".
