Student - Studying Mandarin Chinese
Studied Mandarin Chinese to a high standard. As top of my class I averaged 93% overall for the semester and took additional courses in Chinese Culture and Business Chinese. Whilst studying here I also took the Chinese Government led HSK test and passed level 4 which is "Designed for learners who can discuss a relatively wide range of topics in Chinese and are capable of communicating with Chinese speakers at a high standard." See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanyu_Shuiping_Kaoshi Additionally my reading abilities far outstrip these levels as I am able to read a newspaper and can, given time, translate most documents. I continue to study Chinese daily after my graduation.

Primary school English teacher - self studying Chinese
Shanghai - state run primary schools
English teacher. I spent one semester teaching English in a state run primary school prior to my Mandarin course. Employed through a company contracted to provide teachers to the state sector, I was required to provide a rigorous record of all lesson plans and was assessed on a regular basis. I was awarded the ‘New Teacher Award’ over 60 others for my hard work, dedication and teaching style. I used this time to prepare for my semester at Jiao Tong University by getting my Chinese up to as high a standard as possible and by familiarising myself with life in China.

Business Management Analyst - IBD COO Team
Working as a business management analyst, I had a wide range of responsibilities. These included project management, working with senior staff to produce strategy reports and reporting the performance of the division on a weekly basis. I became an expert user of excel and the various MIS reporting and data analysis tools that are used in IBD. I was the “go to” analyst for other members of the team and the wider division for any issues around data analysis and frequently liaised with data providers about new products, developments and accuracy. I was responsible for providing a weekly update document to senior management that detailed the activity, performance and revenue projections of the M&A business. I was well known for my ability to streamline processes and for using my IT skills to do this. Adopting the task of defining and monitoring the operational risks of the division, I ensured the various stakeholders had signed off on their responsibilities. I won a great deal of praise for having streamlined this process and met and built relationships with a huge range of people from across the firm in the process. As such, I am very familiar with compliance issues around Investment Banking and the methods by which adherence can be ensured.
