I applied for an international rotation with KPMG and was selected for an assignment in Moscow, Russia, where I served the firm’s multinational and local clients. I also taught accounting at Moscow State Linguistic University. Then, together with one other colleague, I was selected to relocate to Baku, Azerbaijan, to open a KPMG office. I developed the banking-audit operation from the ground up and managed the practice, which involved hiring the original staff, budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and full-scale administrative leadership. My work encompassed converting and auditing financial statements from Azerbaijan (statutory) to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). It also required exceptional skills in business development and relationship management, as we grew the practice from zero to $400K.

api
I joined API to direct financial and administrative operations for the organization. In addition to financial management and controls, I was also responsible for directing teams, processes, and programs within the Meetings & Conferences and Intellectual Property (IP) Licensing & Publications groups. My work in this position led to a promotion to VP / CFO of Administration and Finance.

I was recruited by the CFO—a former client of mine from KPMG—and stepped into this newly created position as Director of Finance and Operations for the International Publications Division (International Licensing & Alliances). In this capacity, I provided financial management for the organization’s licensed print products, with annual gross royalties of approximately $20M. I was accountable for budgeting, forecasting, and monthly / annual close procedures. I led and mentored seven team members and served as a trusted liaison and point of contact to legal teams, administrative staff, and licensing partners worldwide.

Before I shifted and grew my career in financial and administrative executive management, I served as an auditor for about 12 years with KPMG. I coordinated and supervised complex audits of major financial services and not-for-profit organizations—including international charities that received federal awards. I was the key go-to person for high-profile clients while managing engagement teams, improving team performance, and increasing process efficiencies. Due to my communication and presentation abilities, I was appointed as an instructor for internal continuing education courses. Also served as Finance Manager for Close Up Foundation, a 501c(3) educational organization. Details will be provided upon request.
