About

I began my career at the pioneering community radio station KPFA in Berkeley, where I showed up with my freshly minted philosophy degree to answer phones for the revolution. Since then my work has ranged widely, from journalism to sound art to multimedia. I have appeared as host of NPR’s "Weekend All Things Considered" and the Smithsonian Institution's "Radio Smithsonian," I have reported from Thailand and Peru, and in 1990 I performed in English and Russian at the First Moscow International Festival of Contemporary Art. In 1996 I helped create Beyond Computers, where I was a contributing editor for several years. I am a founding partner of BEHINDtheBEAT.net, an online music magazine, and a voting member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (The Webby Awards), I live and work in Berkeley, where I have a small recording studio. I am a writer, editor and media producer for The Asia Foundation, an international development NGO, and host and producer of The Berkeleyside Podcast, a regular video podcast for Berkeley's independent news and information website.
