I've spent 45+ years in government relations primarily lobbying for the business community, much of it representing the small business community. I started with NFIB in 1971 and rose to run its Washington Office as VP of Legislative Affairs in 1983. I left NFIB in June 1995 and after a short stop as EVP and SVP of Government Relations, I joined the National Retail Federation in December 1995 as SVP of Government and Public Affairs. In late 1998 I accepted the same position at the Food Marketing Institute. I retired from FMI at the end of 2008. In June 2009 I founded Policy Solutions Motley-Scher-Truitt with two partners. Today I am the owner and principal in Policy Solutions, a small government relations firm focused on the food industry.
