Johan Raslan

I was Executive Chairman of PwC Malaysia from 2004 to 2012, when I retired from the firm. I have held several government appointments, including Chairman of the Financial Reporting Foundation from 2003 to 2009, membership of Bank Negara Malaysia’s Financial Stability Executive Committee from 2009 to 2012, and membership of the International Advisory Panel of the Labuan Financial Services Authority from 2004 to 2012. In corporate governance, I helped the Securities Commission, Malaysia to roll-out the first Malaysian Code of Corporate Governance to the market in 2000. Since then I assisted with drafting and launching certain later versions of the Code. Currently, I am an Independent Non-Executive Director and Audit Committee chairman of Sime Darby Properties Berhad. I have been a board member of two other public-listed companies in the past. Continuing my interest in corporate governance, I am currently a board member of the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM). I hold a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) in Economics and Accountancy from the University of Hull, United Kingdom. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants is (MIA) and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). I served as MICPA President from 2011 to 2012. I have believed for many years that diversity is not only fair, but also leads to successful organisations. Whilst in PwC I started up a Cross-Industry Mentoring initiative along with Irene Dorner (then HSBC head in Malaysia) to encourage mid-ranking female executives in their careers. The PwC women who participated all became senior leaders. I am currently a mentor for the 30% Club. I feel strongly that Climate Change (or Climate Emergency) will soon become the big issue facing communities and businesses. We really need to get governments and businesses to focus and work together to fight climate change. I have therefore joined the CEO Action Network (CAN) of Malaysian business leaders and Climate Governance Malaysia. These networks are working hard to raise awareness and to shift from awareness to meaningful action.
