Joan Cano Martínez

Focused on electrical and physical characterization of advanced semiconductor devices and materials, especially focused on Colloidal quantum dot devices. Supporting process development and technology integration through in-line and end-of-line metrology, failure analysis, and data interpretation.

Conducting optical characterization of thin films, including oxides, metals, and colloidal quantum dot films, using optical profilometry. Analyzed key properties such as defectivity, mechanical stress, and thickness. Gained experience in cleanroom environments, semiconductor fabrication equipment, and various optical characterization techniques. Developed skills in experiment design, data analysis, reporting, and quality control protocols.

The KTT unit manages the Intellectual property and know-how to bring it to market and society. My work is mainly related to the valorization of technologies, patentability studies, market analysis, Spin-off creation and securing funding from public/private calls. Also with experience in big international collaborations like the international project in gravitational wave detection, Einstein Telescope.

Advanced and specialised scientific and technological training in the design and manufacture of integrated, digital and analogue circuits, with an emphasis on applying them in memory systems, communication systems, control systems, computing systems, sensors and emerging devices, such as 2D and quantum devices. Following the Semiconductors Manufacturing specialisation branch and gaining hands-on experience in the manufacturing, design and characterization process of semiconductor devices and emerging technologies.

Completed coursework in electronic physics, quantum mechanics, physics laboratory, medical physics, material physics and statistical mechanics, among others, developing both strong theoretical and applied foundation in physics principles. My bachelor’s thesis and internship took part in a European project in the nanoelectronics laboratory at UB where I engaged in diverse projects related to emerging electronic devices.
