I undertook a weeks work experience placement here. This included drafting a simple consent order, drafting several wills, typing up a chronology, legal research, and making telephone calls to clients and other firms.

The position involved interviewing clients, identifying their problems, and dealing with them accordingly, whether this would be simply advising them of what to do next, making a telephone call or writing a letter on their behalf, or referring them to a specialist adviser or external agency.

This volunteer position was undertaken whilst I was studying for my law degree. It involved interviewing offenders, and assisting them with obtaining training, education, employment, welfare benefits and housing. It also involved accompanying offenders on 'supervised shops', and being a point of contact should they require advice and assistance.

This volunteer position involved attending court once a week, and sitting in the court session. When a defendant pleaded guilty to an offence which was not of a very serious nature, or was their first offence, they had the opportunity to leave court and be interviewed by myself, prior to being sentenced. This interview was very similar to the one which I used in the probation position, and was aimed at identifying the reason for the offending behaviour, so that I could signpost them to the relevant agencies which would be able to assist. We would then return to court, and I would inform the magistrates or judge of my findings and any action taken, and of the offender's general willingness to take part. The offender would then be sentenced accordingly.

I undertook three weeks of work experience with Watson & Woodhouse Solicitors in summer 2010. This included a weeks shadowing a solicitor in Magistrates Court, a week shadowing a Barrister in Crown Court, and a week shadowing a solicitor in the family division of the County Court.
