I have uncovered the roles of Pax6 in promoting progenitor cell proliferation and survival during Drosophila eye-antennal disc development; eevealed the mechanism by which the retinal determination gene network controls head formation. I have also explored the function of Polycomb group (PcGs) proteins in fate determination during eye development. I evaluated the requirement of different PcGs in suppressing alternative wing fate during eye development. I identified the function of Pax6 in maintaining cell plasticity and investigated the time window of eye fate determination.
