• Designed, synthesized and purified synthetic proteins for investigating the mechanism of volatile general anesthetic (e.g. halothane) function. • Applied a nitrile-derivatized amino acid as the vibrational and fluorescence probe for characterizing anesthetic-protein interactions. • Investigated the structural changes of ion channel proteins in response to voltage changes and the presence of general anesthetics employing spectroscopic, thermodynamic and X-ray scattering techniques. • Developed the protocols for forming ultra-thin films of polypeptides on solid substrates.

• Analyzed the influence of DMSO on the surface characteristics of the surfactant solution by surface tension measurements. • Discovered the possible problems on the application of Two-Dimensional Correlation Spectroscopy (2D-COS) induced by the lowquality original spectra. • Determined the selective interactions between DMSO and paraldehyde to verify the applicability of 2D-COS FTIR.
