CREATING GEN2 OFFSHORE WIND TECHNOLOGY Dear Friends and Associates: Here’s an update about my effort to commercialize innovative floating offshore wind technology co-invented with https://www.linkedin.com/in/atmyers/ In 2020, Andy and I founded https://t-omegawind.com/ (TOW), with the aim of reducing offshore-wind electricity cost, and eliminating major infrastructure & supply-chain bottlenecks. Exciting technical progress toward an economical integrated platform-with-turbine culminated in promising discussions with large potential partners, and an ocean-launched 1:16 scale model (7.5m hub height). https://newbedfordlight.org/floating-wind-turbine-prototype-arrives-in-new-bedford-cove/ In early 2025 TOW restructured and spun out a new company Towable Offshore Wind Systems (TOWS Inc.), to continue commercializing the shallow draft, swappable mooring technology. The TOWS goal is to develop a must-have offshore wind solution for both shallow and deep water (a multi-$B/yr global market). DEVELOPMENT AIMS include ● lowest cost, weight, & draft per MW ● Single-day swapping/towing to allow min-downtime maintenance ashore ● Locally manufacturable nacelle & platform ● Greatest practical depth range ● Assembly without large cranes or port enhancements ● Anticipated LCOE around $60/MWh.
