About
Factual and current affairs assistant producer, with a strong journalistic attitude to research, large and diverse contact book, and a proven track record of setting up case studies, gaining access to locations and experts, and liaising with sensitive contributors. I have a keen eye for compelling stories, and sound editorial judgement. With both a strong creative flare, and a passion for meticulous detail, I ensure anything I work on has both a strong identity, but also a professional feel and finish. I'm interested in engaging new audiences with important and challenging topics: be it the re-politicisation of an electorate during the Scottish and European Referendums; or changes and failures within mental health services for teens and children. I'm looking for opportunities in current affairs and factual genres, primarily political programming - both in studio and on location.

researcher, forward planning

My role as forward planner involves keeping up to date with all news wires and press releases across Scotland and the UK, and assessing their relevance for the STV News programme. I contact prospective guests, interviewees and case studies and set up interviews with them. By using social media alerts, scouring the internet and Tweetdeck search terms, I can stay on top of all developing stories and events in Central Scotland, and respond to this as necessary. I attend daily meetings across the primary news team where I assist in building news stories. I often accompany a camera person to film interviews with case studies and guests for the news programme- asking the guest questions in order to guide them to giving key details that accompany the primary news stories. This has included interviewing the Conservative delegation to the Smith Commission, and attending Glasgow Sheriff Court to report on the hearing of Craig Whyte.

As audience researcher for the Scotland Leader's General Election Debate my role entailed contacting prospective audience members to attend the debate- ensuring that the balance of people voting in specific ways matched a breakdown that had been agreed with the Party leaders taking part in the debate in advance.I identified those audience members who would feel comfortable posing questions, before preparing them to take part in the debate. I was also the main point of contact for the audience, and greeted audience members on the night before sourcing last minute contributors and ensuring that all speakers were easily identifiable to the presenter and easily accessible for the sound team. In the run up to the General Election I collated and prepared resources for presenters and producers to use overnight for the General Election Coverage; aided in the weekly dress rehearsals for ITN's overnight programme, sourcing material and images for the Graphics team, communicated with political parties over the coverage, and assisted with social media for Scotland Tonight.
