During my time with the Leicester Mercury Newspaper I was required to conduct vox pops which meant going out into the city centre and interacting with the public asking a series of questions and returning to the office to deliver the information to specific writers or to create my own article. Having the ability to help other writers researching story lines and writing up articles onto the system, not only gave me responsibility in the work place, but also gave me the opportunity to improve my writing abilities, gain first hand knowledge from the experienced journalists and the personal achievement of my article being accepted for publishing and receiving a by line in the local Newspaper.

* Designed a travel guide for the city of Barcelona using InDesign, which was published and made saleable * Wrote a number of articles within the travel guide * Attended daily Spanish language and Culture classes to encourage interaction with the locals and improve my communication skills.

Conducted market research to aid the production of press releases and book reviews - Created promotional print material.

* Tasked with writing articles, speaking to publishers and writers on the phone or via FaceTime/Skype * Managed the company’s Facebook and Twitter accounts posting promotional content for the magazine and associated projects * Supported SABLE’s editor, Kadija George, on a personal project outside my required role, that concerned proofreading essays, conducting editorial work and instigating a social media campaign * Gained insight into an established publishing house and helped to create a marketing action plan.

* Design advertisements for both web and print purposes using specialist software (InDesign/Photoshop/Adobe Illustrator)\ * Have strong relationships with commercial clients and member clientele and provide marketing assistance for several of our partner companies * Write for the organisation’s magazine and email newsletter distributed to 6000 members of NDNA * Update and maintain the company’s website, social media and email marketing campaigns * Represent the company at external conferences and exhibitions.

Activities and Societies: I became a Peer Mentor gaining an ASDAN qualification which developed my leadership and communication abilities which lead to me becoming a prefect and subsequently gaining the role of Head Girl in 2010. Through these roles I took part in public speaking, organising specific events and distributing tasks for myself and fellow prefects which built up my confidence and allowed me to execute the role to the best of my abilities.

Activities and Societies: As a Student at the University of Leicester I have taken part in extra curricular Spanish lessons, attended the festival of careers each year and also taken part in the Leicester Award for experience and employability which allowed me to take part in activities such as interviews and project management tasks to prepare me for the future.
