My main role at this establishment was a front of house figure, I was a customers first port of call for anything from changing money to fixing a machine to selling prizes in the shop. A secondary role was related to stock control, I would carry the monthly stock count of over £45,000 worth of prizes purchased for the summer season, this mammoth task would require adhering to a strict methodology and paying very close attention to detail, as well as locating exceptions in the data for missing and miss-handled stock. The ability to think quickly and improvise was a huge benefit when working as it enabled to business to carry on as normal while seeing to all the customers' needs.

Working here to raise funds to attend an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering. This company has helped me develop my communication skills, not only in building a good rapport with a rapidly growing customer base but in increasing my knowledge and understanding of the vital workings the hotel. One's own initiative is tested daily as restaurant staff are regularly the first person a customer will speak to, questions about the local area, the 'Chef's Specials' or a maintenance issue are common, as such communicating with the various departments of the hotel and an effective knowledge of all things is required to enable said customer to enjoy their stay. Usually through the use of 'handover books' and table plans. Table service during meal times, setting up the restaurant in preparation for the next service, cleaning up after service. Cash handling, general bar work, preparing the hotel for weddings and events, assisting other departments in their duties.

This position boosted my ability to manage my time studying, while allowing me to provide support for the community in which I lived at the time. Working with children aged 12 to 18 years old on a regular basis helped me see the trials and tribulations of an organisation from the ground up while allowing me to input my own ideas to improve the experiences of those that attend.

I joined a medieval re-enactment group called Historia Normannis, a 12th century reenactment group, focusing on the events between the reign of Henry I and King John. As part of this group I have traveled all over the UK and stayed in some splendid castles and ruins, putting on combat and living history shows for the general public to watch and learn about life after the Norman Conquest. I also attended a local Korean Marital Arts group, not associated with the university, called Soo Bahk Do where I achieved a Green belt in the art.
