PhD scientist who lead the evaluation of therapeutic concepts in pre-clinical non-human primate models, human primary cells and cell lines that support drug development in the field of HIV eradication. Key Achievements: • Planned, managed and implemented assay development, validation, analysis and interpretation of results of flow cytometry, ELISA and pharmacokinetics in pre-clinical studies for two targets that demonstrated pharmacological activity at a tolerated dose in non-human primates. • Coordinated communication, prepared timelines, transcribed protocols and organized shipments between pre-clinical study CROs and GSK that resulted in the completion of three pharmacokinetic/ pharmacodynamic/tolerability studies in a five-month period. • Established RNA-seq assay design and bioinformatics methodology to classify drug response by gene expression signatures. • Initiated research collaboration agreement with AccuGenomics to design a novel high-throughput method to measure HIV cell associated RNA and DNA from the same sample utilizing SNAQ RT-PCR methodology. • Lead a team of five Postdoctoral Fellows in organizing GSK’s first Early Talent Postdoctoral Symposium that will result in an annual forum where GlaxoSmithKline’s future leaders will exchange ideas. Received GSK’s Gold Award for leading this effort.

Identified novel mechanisms of HIV latency through immunophenotyping and gene expression studies essential to the development of novel therapeutics for HIV eradication that resulted in two publications and an additional manuscript under review. Key Achievements: • Lead Next Generation Sequencing pilot study utilizing sorted CD4+ CD45RA-PD1+ LAG3+ cell populations that emanated in securing a $47,000 contract between a major pharmaceutical company and the High-Throughput Sequencing Core at VGTI-FL. • Designed, executed and interpreted cell-line and ex vivo primary cell culture experiments through multicolor flow cytometry and qRT-PCR to demonstrate Jak-STAT inhibitors as a potential novel HIV therapeutic to suppress inflammation and low-level viral replication. • Team player to develop a high-throughput novel primary CD4 T-cell latency assay to study HIV reactivation in CD4 memory subsets using multicolor flow cytometry as the readout. • Departmental resource for collaboration between VGTI-FL and well-known supplier that resulted in receiving over $10,000 in reagents to complete projects.

Using in vitro selection experiments, molecular cloning, drug susceptibility studies, biochemical assays and clinical genotyping analyses to identify the clinical occurrence and significance of drug resistance mutations in the connection and RNase H domains of reverse transcriptase among HIV-1 subtype B and C viruses. Resulted in one first author publications and two poster presentations. Transferred knowledge and techniques to laboratory at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa where I worked for 9 months during my PhD to gain international experience in an HIV translational research laboratory.

Identified emergence of connection domain mutation N348I in NVP/3TC/d4T and EFV/3TC/d4T treated patients who experienced virologic failure. Resulted in 4 first author publications, 8 oral presentations and 1 poster presentation.
