DePaul School for Hearing & Speech, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is the only auditory-oral school in the Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia tri-state area. We teach children from birth to age 14 to listen, to speak, and to learn without using sign language. DePaul School for Hearing and Speech is one of only 46 schools worldwide, and the only one in Western Pennsylvania, using the auditory/oral method of teaching. Auditory/oral education teaches children with hearing loss to listen and talk. The goal is to give children the necessary spoken language skills to be successful in the mainstream of education and function independently in the hearing world. DePaul's small, self-contained classrooms (4:1 student teacher ratio on average) coupled with daily individualized instruction and therapy provide an integrated approach to learning spoken language. Teachers in these programs are state certified and highly trained to provide listening and spoken language instruction throughout the day in all classroom and school activities.
