About

Having a good understanding of sport, media and social discourse has been a key factor in bringing success when tackling production campaigns over the last 4 years. My adaptability in the sports media sector brings a sense of authority and quality. This understanding has allowed myself to identify key story elements in overarching campaigns, contributing to the bigger picture, which leads to my passion of directing.

While working as an intern at the Village NEWS I was exposed to many different roles, only adding to my experience in the working world. I worked as an on the ground reporter, videographer (shooting, interviewing and editing all videos for the website) and social media manager. All of these roles were testament to my editor providing me with great responsibility and as a result I thrived under the pressure, delivering quality content and releasing said content via different communication channels. The period I worked in Hermanus was ravaged by five wildfires and so the amount of work that needed to be done was immense as the Village NEWS is the largest new agency in the Overstrand area. This coincided with the Village NEWS desiring to increase the presence online and as a result I contributed greatly to this increasing and improving during the Wildfires.

The honours course was unbelievably demanding due to its mantra of simulating working life in the industry of media, PR and communications. Daily tasks and deadlines were a consistency throughout the year which allowed myself to develop real world expectations. This also gave me the understanding of working with people and how that can affect your work and a 'plan B' is needed to always land on your feet. The course was not only focussed on developing journalist skills but also skills in the realm of media, PR and communications having been exposed to; - Complete video production (iMovie and PremierPro). - Press writing. - Online defamation. - Online campaigning. - Researching. - Handling social media.

Politics, Philosophy and Economics

2015 - 2017 · 2 yrs

The PPE degree gave me a different perspective of the world as opposed to a strict commerce degree: Economics gave me the understanding of why some societies are better off than others, how the world works in terms of disturbing wealth, an understanding of how to make money and taught me to problem solve in a technical sense. Politics also allowed me to understand the way in which societies were formed and also exposed histories of our own nation that do not get enough attention in other fields of study. Philosophy taught me to think critically about the world we already live in. It showed me to not always follow the status quo, therefore to develop thought patterns which have not yet been explored.
