Coordinate two pediatric specialty programs, Duke Children’s Autism Program and Duke Children’s Neuromuscular Weakness Program. Provide specialized nursing treatment, care, and education to patients/families with Autism or Neuromuscular Weakness diagnosis. Triage patient telephone calls and appropriately intervene, educate, and direct the patient to additional resources or to the appropriate team member. Serve as a resource nurse to patients and families. Provide leadership in the development of patient education materials that enhance patient care outcomes within clinical specialty. Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams including pulmonologists, neurologists, cardiologists, gastroenterologists, geneticists, psychologists, psychiatrists, respiratory therapists, speech therapists, social workers, nutritionists, and physical therapists. Promote evidence-based practice through staff education and leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating process standards such as plans of care, protocols, and guidelines.
