As a research assistant under Professor Althoff, MD, PHD, I help to conduct research study visits with participating families. As part of this, some activities include conducting psychological interviews, running computer and eye tracking camera tasks, attaching and analyzing heart rate monitors/data, aiding younger children in completing surveys, and entering and analyzing data. I am well-versed in confidentiality, and have learned a great deal about interacting with families and children in a professional environment. Currently, I am writing a senior honors thesis in the lab, looking at metabolic syndrome, and anxiety and depression.

I worked part time at Zinnia Jewelry, a locally owned business in Burlington, Vermont. I was a sales associate, and learned a great deal about customer service, precious metals, and gem stones.

At Olive Garden, I started as a host and worked my way up to a server. Serving taught me about multi-tasking in a fast paced environment, customer service, and maintaining composure.

As a certified soccer referee, I refereed for a local soccer league. Refereeing taught me how to make quick, informed decisions, as well as how to maintain focus in a high pressure situation.

At the University of Vermont (UVM), I am majoring in Biological Sciences (B.S.) and minoring in music. I am a member of the UVM Honors College, and am writing an Honors Senior Thesis under the guidance of Dr. Althoff, MD, PHD on the relationship between anxiety and depression and metabolic syndrome. I am also premed, with the hope to become a pediatrician. The upper level science classes I have chosen to take have focused primarily on neuroscience, human genetics, and evolution. I am very interested in psychological disorders, and their possible evolutionary and genetic mechanisms. In science labs at UVM, I learned many basic laboratory skills, including PCR, titrations, histologies, gel electrophoresis, tissue staining, and running TLC plates.
