Jenna DeVries
SENSE Enterprise Program Manager @ Michigan Technological University
About
With my project experience, I have had to design new ideas for multiple companies. I have helped design systems for a microbial mat sampling device, an autonomous deployment sound velocity profiler that will interface with an unmanned vessel, and created a new retrieval system for autonomous watercraft. I have taken much criticism for each design flaw or issue, and have used the input from my superiors and peers to resolve them promptly. I have been on the Executive board for Multiple years with student clubs. My first E-Board position was the Assistant General Manager/Treasurer for MTU Sound and Lighting Services. In this position, I handled money, created a budget for up to $80,000, and watched the accounts. I was then voted up to General Manager/President. In this position, I would lead manager and general meetings, help resolve issues with upset customers, and reapply for Registered Student Organization status within the school. I have had to call mediated meetings between my group and a disgruntled customer, in which I proposed a compromise that everyone agreed with. I am also the current Program Manager for Strategic Education through Navel Systems Experiences (SENSE), Enterprise. The Enterprise program at Michigan Tech is very similar to senior design, but for all grade levels. These teams tend to be much bigger and have larger sponsored projects. It is much more similar to an industry environment, where you have multiple different projects going on within the same group. As Program Manager, I lead general meetings, organize project groups, aid project leads, and communicate with our advisor. I am also the Project Lead for my current project within SENSE. This is where my team and I are designing a new retrieval system for autonomous watercraft for Ocean Infinity America. As a Project Lead, I organize communication with our sponsor, delegate tasks, and lead team meetings. I am currently working for the Great Lakes Research Center here at MTU. I am a Marine Autonomy Instrumentation Intern. I was hired to work on an unmanned surface water vessel. In this position, I had to troubleshoot the electrical systems, replace the PLC, add US Standard 120V charging, as it originally had 240V charging, and plan missions. I am also the Teaching Assistant for Circuits I, Circuits II, and Control Systems. In these courses, I aid with homework, worksheets, and run and grade the labs. I ensure safety procedures are met and answer any questions students may have.
