Supported the Vice Chancellor for Research in building a more productive research program with the goal of advancing Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) to an R1 Carnegie Classified Research University. ● Worked to increase the visibility and public awareness of research at SIUC ● Identified strategies to leverage existing resources to increase research efficiency and output

Established and managed all aspects of a world-class research organization including: infrastructure, personnel, finances, and operational matters for the organization and research programs. Operational Activities: ● Recruited and lead a diverse team of over 90 administrative and technical professionals ● Accountable for an annual budget of ~$8M/yr ● Built and managed several laboratories for various applications (BSL2, tissue culture, polymer synthesis, electronics, lab-scale automation) -Managed compliance as well as health and safety protocols for several BSL2 laboratories and chemistry labs with hazardous materials ● Implemented and managed all administrative and support functions including HR, finance, procurement, and IT ● Under my leadership, the organization was named “Best New Nanotechnology Research Organization” – 2014 by The New Economy Program Management Activities: ● Work culminated in >60 scientific publications and 2 patents ● Provided project management, strategic project guidance, and allocated resources to ensure the successful execution of >25 simultaneous projects ● Led the team to the semi-finals round of the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE Competition (2016) Business Development Activities: ● Established and managed >50 international industrial and academic collaborations ● Collaborated in developing strategies for managing intellectual property and commercialization ● Participated in the 1st Canada-China Carbon Capture, Use, and Storage Forum, and trade missions to Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and Korea
