Founder & CEO @ The Center for Education Reform
About
More than three decades ago, I set out to restore excellence in education - and built a movement to do it.As founder and CEO of CER, I’ve worked alongside an extraordinary team, policymakers, and educators to advance laws and ideas that give families real power and open doors for students. That work has helped drive the modern education choice movement and reshape how millions of families engage in their children’s education. In 2021, alongside Janine and Jeff Yass, we launched the Yass Prize - now one of the largest education innovation prizes in the world - deploying more than $55 million in venture philanthropy to support bold, student-centered models across the country. Together, we are working to expand what we call the STOP principles (Sustainable, Transformational, Outstanding, and Permissionless education) so that every state has access to models that truly serve students.I’ve spent my career at the intersection of policy, politics, and entrepreneurship - contributing to national conversations through outlets like The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Fox News, CNN, and more. I write regularly through Forza for Education and host conversations with leaders across the field through our podcasts.I’m the author of “An Unfinished Journey: Education & the American Dream.” My next book, “The Education Avengers: How and Why a New Crop of Heroes are Fighting America’s Biggest Battle”, will be released in August 2026 and is now available for pre-order - telling the stories of the people building what comes next in education. At the center of all of it is a simple belief: when families have real power and innovators have room to build, education doesn’t just improve - it transforms. And we’re not slowing down.

Experience

Founder & CEO
Washington, DC
An entrepreneur by nature and innovator by experience, I proudly lead the organization I founded in 1993, and its nationwide fight to ensure that the bedrock of U.S. schooling is innovation, freedom and flexibility. CER is the nation’s leading authority on innovation and opportunity in education. I spend most of my time advising on the creation of great programs, policies and advocacy efforts to change hearts and minds, so that the best nation on earth can be also be home to the most exceptional opportunities, for all students, no matter where they live or their stage in life. Education is the path to human enlightenment, and the foundation of a free and democratic civil society. Today we have at our disposal unprecedented access to knowledge, education and the potential for honorable work. But access to all 3 are out of reach for most Americans, with numerous physical and social boundaries. My current quest is the removal of all the silos that limit the potential for all to participate fully in society. I hope we can work together to achieve just that. Check out www.edreform.com for more about the nation's leader in expanding opportunity and innovation in education so that all may achieve the American dream.
