HPC Operations Director
In 2009, my previous role as been extended to Sales relationships with Bull subsidiaries and the Project deliveries. In addition to presales and benchmarks, my organization is in charge of project delivery up to final acceptance and I directly interface all Bull subsidiaries on any HPC Sales aspects. I’m also involved in the definition of the overall HPC strategy at Bull. In this position, I strongly contributed to the growth of HPC revenue at Bull, from 72M€ in 2009 to 170M€ in 2011 with more than 20% of year to year growth.

In that position, my role was to create and drive the HPC Operations at Bull. My responsibility covered presales and benchmark teams. The scope of my organization was to support the HPC sales organization on all technical aspects, from the very early discussions with the customers and decisions makers to the signature of the contract. I also contributed to the definition of the HPC product strategy at Bull and I also strongly contributed to the purchase negotiations with Bull suppliers, including Intel, memory vendors, storage vendors and interconnect vendors. During that period of time, the HPC business at Bull grow from up from €1.4M in 2003 to more than 72M€ in 2009. My team contributed to the major success of Bull in HPC, including TERA10 which was in 2005 one of the five larger supercomputer in the world.

I teach Supercomputer Architecture basic concepts. My students are from the Computer Science section, Master 2 degree. My module is 20h long split as such: - History of HPC and basic concepts (from Top500 to Amdahl's law) - HPC economy, marketing and business - microprocessor architecture, including CPU, GPUs, MIC, FPGA - from cache coherency to CC-NUMA machines - Interconnects: RDMA, IB, topologies - parallel filesystems - HPC software stacks The exam is quit unusual for french students. Each of them to present in front of the class one of the machine of his/her choice from the Top500 list. Slides must be in english and they have to speak english too.

I was in charge of one project at the World Health Organization (United Nation) consisting in migrating their invoice approcal chain from a paper based process to an electronic one. I also successfully ran the Database consolidation of the +10 Valaisian hospitals (Canton de Vaux) onto their Main IT center located in Sion.

I’ve been in charge of supporting the largest deals in the presales phase at the European level and to manage the delivery of the solutions for the won deals. I also participated in the definition of the HPC strategy at the corporate level. My main achievement has been the definition of the architecture and the conception of the first prototype of the SUN HPC Blade Server based on the UltraSparc IIe processor.

I’ve been in charge of defining the architecture the largest Europe HPC deals, working in the EMEA HPC Expertise Centre of Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). My main achievement has been the definition of the architecture of the CEA-TERA1 Supercomputer which was in 2001 the largest in Europe (3.98TFLOPS). It was also the largest cluster in the world in its class (2560 Alpha processors in 640 servers).
