Jaydi Park 박종대

Jaydi(Jongdae) is a Seoul-based architect with more than 20 years of experience, especially in cultural complexes, education facilities, exhibition spaces and architectural narratives. Among several prize-won competition projects, the greatest achievement might be the winner in the International Design Competition for the National Cultural Center (so-called Lee Kun-hee Museum) in 2024. The project, named Restoration of Lost Time, which he is currently working on at the very center of Seoul, was selected unanimously by the jury for the architects’ attempt to embed historical narratives in architectural designs. Prior to the co-founded studio, he worked in Samoo Architects and Engineers for almost twenty years including overseas projects in Southeast Asia and mainly led several design competition projects including Kia Red Dot Design Awards. In particular, the Visionary City, an exhibition project, which he led for the UIA 2017 Seoul, won the 2019 IDEA Design Awards. His continuous attempts to discover the value of narratives in architecture and embody in architecture design with aesthetics and technologies were started when he studied at Bartlett, UCL. Lost Beach, his master degree project was his architectural experiment to appreciate the value of what is missing now but was present before. Place Dan-wol (Red moon), which he has been working on for a private company’s cultural complex at the outskirt of Seoul, is another part of his architectural journey to discover the value of missing but paradoxically being. With this overarching theme, the JEJEHAAP Architects has made notable records in several public design competitions: International Design Competition for Lee Kun-hee Museum, Winner, 2024, International Idea Competition for Pedestrianizing Jamsu-Bridge, Winner, 2023, International Competition for Seoul City Library, 3rd Prize, 2023. This architect is also passionate in interacting with the youth by teaching at Sookmyung Women’s University, highly appreciating the time to share fresh ideas with students. Furthermore, he has been serving as Seoul public architect and Incheon City educational space facilitator. This public role has been providing him a priceless opportunity to contemplate architecture’s contribution to community and experiment his design initiatives. He strongly believes the power of storytelling in architecture and therefore, deeply appreciates the value of narratives and pursues their balanced combination with aesthetics and innovative technologies.
