Founded the legal department of a startup company launched by a Dutch venture capital firm that managed a $500 million investment project focused on developing a chain of small-format, retail grocery stores in Florida. Responsibilities: • Advised the board of directors and senior management on business and legal issues related to real estate transactions, the formation of legal entities, and regulatory compliance. • Selected, managed, and consulted with outside counsel to resolve civil lawsuits and consumer complaints, to respond to inquiries from state regulators, and to seek advice on employment, immigration, and intellectual property law matters. Key Contributions: • Accelerated the company’s expansion by hiring, training, and managing a team of 5 attorneys and 3 paralegals at offices in Miami and Tampa that closed 40+ commercial real estate leases within 1 year. • Negotiated and drafted letters of intent, letters of credit, real estate leases, and construction agreements. • Lead attorney in 25+ commercial real estate lease transactions, including the lease for the company’s 8,600+ square feet corporate headquarters. • Created the company’s standard lease agreement form. • Implemented comparative advertising campaign and ensured company-issued coupons, point-of-sale materials, and print advertising content complied with the Lanham Act and FTC regulations.
