General Manager Water and Wastewater Utility

I am responsible for providing the overall strategic leadership in the management, operations, and maintenance of the Water and Wastewater Systems. This involves budget and capital project development and oversight, effective planning and co-ordination of manpower, equipment, repairs and service. This position ensures the adequate delivery of water for domestic use and for fire protection, to ensure adequate capacity and treatment and adequate wastewater collection systems are in place for all customers while ensuring a healthy and safe work environment for staff.

Electric Distribution Design Manager
Lead a team of Engineers, Design and administration staff to upgrade, maintain, and grow the 13.8kV electric distribution system for the City of Lethbridge. I am responsible to set all the policies and procedures, and manage all of the contracts associated with the distribution department.

With safe work performance and compliance with environmental requirements being primary considerations, I manage, supervise and coordinate all activities related to operating the hydroelectric, wind and gas generating assets and associated facilities of Brookfield Power along with the transmission assets of Great Lakes Power. The duties for this position include: Establish operating standards, policies and procedures. Managing technical staff; schedule and assign work to ensure trouble-free operation of existing plants. Ensure System Control operates with in the terms of the Independent Electricity System Operator / Great Lakes Power Lines (GLPL) Operating Agreement. Develop budgets, work plans and assign resources for System Control Identify employee training requirements and develop training plans to meet compliance. Review and approves training requirements submitted by technical staff. Negotiate contract terms and conditions where required with contractors or consultants. Within a team environment develop innovative approaches to operations which would deliver improved results for the division. Keep abreast of legislation, regulations, rules, policies and issues that may affect the operation of GLPL and Brookfield Power entities to ensure compliance. Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other managers, superintendents and staff of Brookfield Power. Maintain and enhance the business working relationship between our marketing/trading group (BEMI), Ontario Production groups and other assigned entities.

As part of a team, I provided leadership to the forecasting and outage integration group. Duties include: Completing tasks related to the delivery of Market Forecasts and Integration products. This encompassed the development of solutions to problems, monitoring the quality of information, and producing the necessary documentation to substantiate recommendations. Providing advice, direction and solutions to team members, as well as mentoring and training other team members. I was responsible for reviewing and participating in the development and implementation of the Day Ahead Reliability Commitment Process for the Ontario Electricity Market. I was involved with external facing working groups pertaining to Outage Planning as well as Outage Coordination for groups within Ontario and as part of external working groups. I was a member of the NPCC CO-12 Operations Coordination Working Group, this group is responsible for providing a summer and winter pre and post operational assessment of the Northeast United States and Canada.

Senior Operations Officer
Act as the Security Coordinator to assess and monitor the minute to minute operation of Ontario's bulk electricity grid and its interconnections consistent with IESO, NPCC and NERC standards. This includes ensuring operating security limits are being respected during normal and emergency conditions, directing restoration of system components during normal and abnormal conditions, assessing and approving outages, foreseeing and responding to potential problems.

Trained in a classroom and simulator environment to operate and monitor a CANDU nuclear reactor in a control room setting at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. Completed and passed all government written and simulator exams.
