As a Mechanical drafter I make detailed drawings, specify design dimensions and construct models of mechanical devices and parts. I work with engineers, manufacturing companies and architects, preparing blueprints and advising on construction methods and materials. Duties include: 1) Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies/tools using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment. 2) Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems. 3) Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed. 4) Position instructions and comments onto drawings. 5) Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems. 6) Design scale or full-size blueprints of specialty items, such as mechanical components and surface models 7) Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to the materials. 8) Lay out and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines. 9) Confer with customer representatives to review schematics and answer questions pertaining to installation of systems or individual components. 10) Lay out, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems. 11) Reverse engineering of components or mechanical equipment, Deliver a CAD model and drawing either of the original component or supply the changes required by the customer representatives, with high accuracy by means of measuring equipment.
