About
Ja'Nae is a recent graduate from Michigan State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Communication (Organizational) with a minor in African American and African Studies. During her undergraduate career, she served in many capacities focused on student success and bridging the achievement gap. Through her study abroad programs in South Africa and Costa Rica, she examined the ways in which race and culturally relevant education affect classroom experiences. Her passion for finding ways to engage students through social justice learning lead her to a career as a math teacher in Detroit, Michigan. Through math education, Ja'Nae develops curriculum to help students connect math with their own cultural and community histories. This provides students with a deeper understanding of social and political issues by exploring government budgets, the economic impact of a war, realities of national debt, and more. Using a social justice and cross-curricular view of mathematics can be the basis of creating the next generation of change makers.
