MGRECON 548Q: Empirical Economic Analysis This course focuses on empirical techniques used to more deeply understand economic markets in which firms operate. We identify and empirically analyze a variety of market structures, ranging from perfect competition to oligopoly (rivalry between a small number of competitors) to monopoly (one dominant firm). We develop the skills necessary to make effective managerial decisions and strategic choices based on the quantitative analysis of a firm’s productive capabilities and the market in which it operates. We also focus strongly on the insight necessary to optimally identify, estimate, interpret, and test an economic model. This course is designed for MBA students who are interested in utilizing empirical economic models for market analysis, including students interested in consulting, strategic analysis, private equity, operations, marketing, and mergers & acquisitions.

Working to map the ecosystem and opportunity set for various impact, sustainability, and ESG strategies by conducting research on asset managers (venture capital, private equity, hedge fund, traditional long-only), individual companies with strategies focused on one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and buyers/funders of those strategies.
