Placement in the chemistry department taken in order to develop my communication skills in particular interpersonal and public speaking. Responsible for preparing and presenting lesson material as well as demonstrate & conduct practical's for 30 pupils of varying ages and abilities.

Involved working as part of a departmental team consisting of one supervisor and 6 senior technicians as well as working with other departments on joint projects. Worked to BASF’s quality control standards of ISO 9000: 2008. Responsibilities included formulating blends on a gram to tonne scale to customer requirements and specifications, testing polyurethane materials physical properties specifically Specific gravity, viscosity and strength tests and consequently preparing technical reports for customers all within strict deadlines. In addition to weekly up keep of laboratory space, machine hall and laboratory testing apparatus and machinery. Communicating progress and updates on given tasks to peers in order to remain to strict deadlines

Third Year Dissertation Project: A novel approach to investigating the generality of the N-aryl transfer reaction.

As well as study for my masters, 60 credits was gained from doing a thesis based upon my 12 month industrial placement at BASF Polyurethanes Derbyshire. The Project was entitled an Investigation into chemical and physical properties of rigid polyurethane; determination of lambda values.
