About
James Parker is a 20-year sports business and educational professional. As a true pioneer in the youth sports space, James was recruited and asked to be the Director of Athletics & Student Activities for Alexandria City Public Schools in order to rebuild the brand of T.C. Williams High School which was portrayed in the movie Remember the Titans. Having the ability to get buy-in, James spearheaded a community plan to finally get lights placed on the football stadium field after over 50 years of being told no by the community. Most recently James served 18 years (2000-2018) as Director of Sports and Sports Manager of Boy’s & Men’s Basketball for the Amateur Athletic Union which is the largest youth sports organization in the country. In these roles, James was intimately involved in new business development, acquisition of strategic partnerships, managing championship caliber event operations, building brand awareness, integration of new technology and staying on top of new trends in the youth sports marketplace. James was an ambassador for AAU, as he was charged with building strategic partnerships and cutting edge programs in the amateur sports space. He did this by building strategic alliances with the NBA, WNBA, USOC, USAB, NFHS and the NCAA. James started in 2000, as the Sports Manager of Boys’ Basketball which is the AAU’s largest sport. In his role he managed and organized over 22 National AAU Boy’s and Men’s basketball National Championships which included managing over 2000 teams and 30,000 athletes and coaches. Over his illustrious career, James has worked in several capacities with the International Basketball League, NBA Pre-Draft Camp, Orlando Magic, the Arena Football League and Old Dominion University. He worked for the International Basketball League’s Richmond Rhythm during its inaugural season and was an instrumental piece of their championship run during their first season. Currently James is active in the community serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Amateur Athletic Union, American Public University’s (APU) Sport and Health Sciences advisory board member, a member of National Intercollegiate Athletic Administrators Association, and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
