Master Patrol Officer 3- K9 Trainer Traffic/Motor Officer Served as the K9 coordinator and trainer for the New Bern Police Department, K9 unit. I was responsible for maintaining a high level of readiness for the police K9's and outside agency personnel. Responsible for over $12,000 worth of New Bern Police Department K9 equipment. Conducted weekly training to ensure that all K9 personnel were familiar with and adhere to proper K9 handling procedures and tactics. Ensured that all K9 equipment is properly inventoried and mission ready. Conducted periodic spot checks of K9 housing and vehicles. Responsible for the training of; all new K9's and personnel, outside agency personnel and K9’s associated. Patrols an assigned district in a patrol car on assignment for the purpose of observing the area for possible criminal activity or other conditions that could endanger public safety, investigating complaints, and enforcing laws. Investigates crimes, interviews witnesses, complainants, and victims; and gathers physical evidence and preserves for court; conducts follow up investigations as needed. Enforces all felony and misdemeanor laws of North Carolina. Apprehends, arrests and detains criminal suspects and law violators when necessary; Serves warrants, summonses, subpoenas, civil and other official papers. Serves as witness in court and provides evidence in court as required.Responds to calls for service Checks residential and commercial property for security as requested. Assists motorists in various situations as needed. Safeguards property. Prepares, processes, and/or transmits various reports as required. Works under stressful, high risk conditions.Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others. Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively, and to determine proper course of action to be taken. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to write and speak effectively.

Maintains weapons and equipment in functional and presentable condition. Transports mental patients and prisoners to prescribed locations, Works under stressful, high risk conditions. Takes decisions at the crime scenes which may be centered around life or death situations; Watches for wanted or missing person and lost children; administers first aid to the injured in emergency cases; Attends shift meeting, seminars, and training sessions as required to remain knowledgeable of operations and promote job performance. Attends required periodic training sessions and seminars. Takes active charge in serious or unusual situations.

Patrols a designated area of the city on foot, or in a radio cruiser to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of a crime, and to enforce traffic and parking regulations. Answers calls and complaints involving a variety of situations both misdemeanors and felonies. At scene of crimes, conducts preliminary investigations, gathers evidence, obtains witness statements, and makes arrests as well as testifies as a witness in court. Interviews persons with complaints and inquiries and attempts to make the proper disposition or direct them to proper authorities. Issues traffic tickets; directs traffic at intersections. Conducts accident investigations providing first-aid for injured, taking safeguards to prevent further accidents; interviews principals and witnesses, taking written statements from drivers, witnesses; examines vehicles and roadways, observing traffic control devices and obstruction to view; takes necessary street measurements; clears the scene of obstructions and wreckage. Acts as custodian of personal property and evidence being held for court presentation; maintains records of property, evidence, and automobiles held or impounded. Conducts interrogations and investigations. Performs other related police duties as assigned. Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others.
