Jake Fathman

Associate Director Pharmacology @ Neomorph, Inc.

About

• 15+ years experience in the study of in vitro and in vivo murine models of human disease. • My personal and career goals are to lead a team that works towards improving the understanding and treatment of human diseases. I am particularly interested in the biological mechanisms underlying cancer and autoimmunity as well as the development of therapeutics for the treatment of such diseases. • Great oral/written communication skills, creative problem-solving and multitasking, works well in collaborative teams, ability to integrate detailed analysis into a larger disease-oriented context.

Drug Discovery, In Vivo Pharmacology My postdoctoral research entails developing, optimizing and running high throughput screens on primary human and mouse immune cells to identify novel tumor immunotherapy and autoimmune targets. To this end, I utilize high throughput flow cytometry, high content imaging, and mass cytometry (CYTOF) to characterize immune responses to perturbations with small molecules, biologics, or genomic manipulation. I also work on late-stage projects by developing cellular and in vivo assays to aid in the validation and efficacy of compounds and biologics to specific targets.

Dr. Irv Weissman's Lab, Stanford Stem Cell Institute

My doctoral work drew upon areas of immunology, developmental biology and stem cell research to address questions regarding Natural Killer cell (NK) development. I studied the different developmental stages and the transcription factors that allow a hematopoietic stem cell to differentiate into a mature and functional NK cell. I also identified novel cell surface markers on murine and human hematopoietic stem cells with the use of 12-color flow cytometry and microarrays, which allows for the rapid purification of highly enriched populations.
