About

You and I both know the version of leadership that looks like it's working from the outside while quietly costing you on the inside. Your standards are high, you're reliable, and you always get it done. From the outside you look composed. Inside, you're managing how you're being received, replaying conversations, polishing anything before you put your name to it, and have a noisy inner critic. You finish most weeks drained from being on, from monitoring, managing, and performing the version of you the role expects. This is what leading from self-protection looks like. The drive that makes you good is fuelled by a quiet fear of dropping the ball, being judged, or being found out, so you manage, monitor, and perform to stay ahead of it. You want to create impact and deliver to a high standard, but you want it to feel good too, rather than costing you your energy, your relationships, and your sense of who you are. The gap between what you know and how you actually show up under pressure is what self-leadership solves. I'm an Olympian, a senior HR leader, and a Leadership & Performance Coach. I’ve been in both worlds, high performance sport and senior leadership. The pattern that holds capable leaders back is the same in both environments. You already have the capability. The piece you're missing is how to stop fighting yourself in the moments that matter most. Most of my athletic career was spent racing from fear. Fear of failure, of being judged, of not being good enough. The shift didn't come from removing the fear. It came from learning to use it as information rather than instruction. The fear was still there at the Olympics. It just stopped controlling the race. The same internal mechanic runs leadership. The CAANN Self-Leadership Framework is the work. Five practices built across elite sport, executive leadership, and people and culture. → Clarity, knowing who you are beneath the surface.→ Accountability, taking ownership for what is yours→ Aligned Action, moving from what you value rather than what you fear → Nerve, holding your position when the room shifts → Navigation, leading yourself through what strategy can't reach From Protection to Presence is my 12-week programme that takes leaders through the full framework with structure, accountability, and the depth required to actually shift the pattern. If this is the work you want to do, send me a message and let's chat. The Edge Within, my five-key workbook for leading from the inside out, is in my featured section if you'd like somewhere to start on your own first.

As General Manager People at TotalEnergies New Zealand, I lead the people, culture, and health and safety functions across the business. My work spans everything from how the organisation is designed and resourced, to how we build leadership capability, support performance, grow culture, and keep our people safe. That includes strategic workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, development, employee experience, and leading the systems and structure behind it all. On the health and safety side, I hold responsibility for making sure we have the right systems, processes, behaviours, and reporting in place to meet our obligations and protect our people, whether they’re in the office, on site, or in the field. This includes risk management, compliance, incident response, contractor management, and making sure every leader understands their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act. I work as part of the executive team, partnering closely with the CEO and senior leaders to shape how we lead, how we operate, and how we grow in a way that protects what matters, drives performance, and supports people to do good work, safely.

The Self-Leadership Movement

LinkedIn
2026-1 - Present · 9 mos

The Self-Leadership Movement is about changing how we think about high performance and leadership, especially for high-performing leaders who care about their work but often feel more pressure than they let on. Most people are taught to push, cope, deliver, and keep going, and that works for a while until it doesn't. You end up with capable people doing well on the surface while feeling tense, stretched, or stuck underneath, caught in cycles of overthinking and self-doubt that quietly drain their energy. Self-leadership starts there. It is the ability to notice what is happening inside you and not be run by it, to slow your reactions down enough to choose how you show up, and to lead yourself instead of being led by stress, fear, or the need to prove something. This movement exists to make that practical, not as theory but in the way people actually work, lead, and make decisions. It shows up as more clarity about what matters, stronger boundaries, less overthinking, and more trust in yourself when things feel uncomfortable or uncertain. The work is built on the CAANN Self-Leadership Framework, five practices drawn from elite sport, executive leadership, and people and culture: → Clarity, knowing what's actually yours to carry → Accountability, the internal kind rather than the performance kind → Aligned Action, moving from values rather than fear → Nerve, holding your position when the room shifts → Navigation, leading yourself through what strategy can't reach From Protection to Presence is my 12-week 1:1 programme that takes leaders through the full framework with structure, accountability, and depth. It's leadership from the inside out, where how you lead yourself shapes your ripple, and high performance finally feels good.

As an Olympic Ambassador, my mission was to inspire and educate school-aged children about the PowerPoint of sports, the Olympic movement, and the core Olympic values. In this role, I had the privilege of sharing my personal experiences as an Olympian and the lessons I learned on the journey to the Games. Through captivating storytelling and interactive discussions, I conveyed the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and dedication in achieving one's goals, both on and off the field. One of my primary objectives was to encourage children to participate in sports and embrace the NZ Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship. By instilling these values, I aimed to cultivate a positive and inclusive sporting culture among the younger generation, fostering an appreciation for diversity, sportsmanship, and healthy competition. I engaged with schools, sports clubs, and community organizations, delivering motivational talks and interactive sessions that emphasised the benefits of sports for physical and mental well-being. By highlighting the values and ideals represented by the Olympic Games, I aimed to inspire children to pursue their athletic dreams and contribute positively to their communities. Throughout my time as an Olympic Ambassador, I cherished the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young individuals.
