• Managed a 50 bed residential unit coordinating therapeutic recreation programs. • Worked within a team of 15 Recreation Therapist’s to plan overall goals for the department. • Responsible for managing monthly budget set by Fraser Health Authority. • Developed, planned and implemented therapeutic recreation programs: 1:1, small and large group settings to maintain or improve their social, emotional, cognitive and physical skills. 1:1 interactions such as cognitive games and social 1:1 time, nature strolls Small group such as community integration outings, exercise sessions, adapted aquatics and crafts Large group programs such as: volunteer appreciation events, music entertainment and monthly activities and special events. • Creative in developing programs to meet department and patient goals. • Created monthly calendar, planning days, times and frequency of events and programs. • Trained volunteers on the unit to companion elderly patients and liaison with community resources to maximize benefits of recreation programming. • Lead workshops, to increase awareness of the benefits of recreation, to the interdisciplinary team. • Responsible for assessing clients, developing treatment plans and implementing programs to achieve patient goals with the health care team including doctors, nurses, physiotherapist, pharmacist and nutritionist.

Therapeutic Recreation is a process that utilizes functional intervention, education and recreation participation to enable persons with physical, cognitive, emotional and/or social limitations to acquire and/or maintain the skills, knowledge and behaviours that will allow them to enjoy their leisure optimally, function independently with the least amount of assistance and participate as fully as possible in society.
