A part time job while taking spring classes, I experimented in subcutaneous surgical mesh with magnesium integration to improve current knowledge on wound restoration in the Crawley Laboratory. The trial Involved surgically implanting laboratory mice to test the benefit of increased magnesium concentrations. While the study is still ongoing (FDA approval is a multi-year process), I set major groundwork baselines for future testing.

For Biotechnology IV capstone, I worked alongside Meridian Bioscience Inc. to develop and market a immuno-chromatographic lateral flow device for the diagnostic testing of Shigella in fecal samples. The project altered Meridians current urine test kit and implemented personally formulated antibodies to successfully produce a disposable, low cost, accurate fecal test for the Shigella sonnei serotype that was successfully integrated into Meridians product line.
