Jack Hobbs MRICS

I worked for RED Construction during my Placement year. For the first 6 months I worked as a trainee site manager working on the BXT Pavilion in Brent Cross and also on the 100 Shoreditch High Street hotel project. I then spent the final 6 months working as trainee QS working on Townsend House in Victoria. I throughly enjoyed the year out and learnt invaluable lessons about the construction industry and the certain disciplines that are associated with it.

I spent two summers working at this busy tourist attraction in nearly all the different jobs they had. This in included working on the admissions handling cash and cashing up, in the play areas making sure COVID health & safety measures were kept to, in the kitchen & cafe serving, clearing and washing up. This job helped my communication skills because I learnt how to deal with difficult customers and keep them happy. I also helped out in the café/kitchen where tasks included taking orders, using the till, running out food to tables and washing up.

I have worked on numerous hockey camps as coach. - Helped with communication skills - Helped with teamwork - Patience when coaching large group of young children

I worked here for 5 and a half months, with my main role as a production line worker of Rapeseed oil. During my time I learnt how to work in a team consisting of a range of personalities, meeting important sales deadlines. I was also responsible for maintaining the grounds at the factory and offices.

I spent a week shadowing my cousin, then a Senior Project Manager for Argent LLP on the King’s Cross Project. We spent the week going on site visits and seeing projects at different stages along the process. I also sat in on meetings with contractors, sub-contractors and quantity surveyors.

I spent a week with the Land Surveyors Landbridge, shadowing different surveyors in the company, who were working on a range of projects, including land valuation, estate management and letting services.
