About
Throughout my career in education, I have maintained my commitment to the belief that my most important responsibility is to teach students how to think, not what to think; how to communicate, not what to say; how to research and seek solutions, not how to memorize and regurgitate information; and, how to help shape a future that is unknown, not perpetuate a past that is unsustainable. Throughout my career, I have confronted issues of access to education for students from both urban centers to rural communities. I have worked with number of community-based organizations and national organizations, including A Better Chance, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Upward Bound. I have empowered staff to learn how better to serve the needs of students from populations historically underserved in higher education. I have checked and continue to check my own privilege, failing more times than I succeed, but persisting nonetheless. This has been the single most difficult, yet most critically important challenge that I have faced personally and professionally.
