Isra Yousif

As a freshman intern I assist executive board members with event planning, outreach, and organizational tasks while supporting outreach efforts to connect with other first-year students. Through this role, I contribute to building a community with meaningful connections for students on campus.

The Public Health Scholars program at American University is an interdisciplinary, 3 year-accelerated B.S, cohort program for highly motivated and academically successful students who are passionate about public health and health outcomes. Through this program students participate in original research and scholarly writing, engage with DC through internships and service learning activities, and study abroad.

Selected for a competitive journalism program at Princeton University, where I gained hands-on experience in reporting, writing, and media ethics under the mentorship of professional journalists. Wrote original stories and explored the role of journalism in shaping public understanding. My work was published in the Princeton Summer Journal.

As a Staff Writer Intern with Youthcast Media Group’s Gun Violence Workshop, I write stories about how gun violence affects young people and their communities. I work with editors and mentors to improve my writing, learn about journalism, and share stories that help raise awareness and encourage change.
