Arting This is my favorite word. “Have fun arting!” I heard one of the USI art faculty say one day in passing. Since then, I haven’t been able to get the word out of my head. There’s no formal definition in Merriam-Webster, but… I will try and define it as best I can. Arting • /ärtiNG/: the process of inspired creativity with recognition and focus on what is influencing you in that moment, followed by repeated attempts to bring the concept to life. Arting is the creative process; it’s long, tedious, grueling and at times painfully frustrating… but there is nothing I’d rather do than create because the payoff is next to priceless. From the first “Ahaa!” moment to the painful late nights iterating through trial and error, watching each new idea fail again and again - eventually something sticks and YOUR ideas create something brand-spanking-new. When my ideas fail and problems inevitably show themselves, arting has taught me to think outside the box and develop my own creative solutions. I’ve learned how to be flexible and roll with the punches, but still be able to get things done in a timely manner! The creative process has helped me grow into a multi-dimensional artist as I gather inspiration from all aspects of my life and those around me. I discovered my passion for the arts in 2016; I’ve fallen in love with the digital side of arts like photography, typography and graphic design, but I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty, too. I have explored and tested the limits of graphite, charcoal, inks, and clay. I’ve developed a keen eye for detail and have a strong sense for composition, lighting and layout. In the end, it’s my curiosity for the creative world that drives me forward, leaving me eager to grow as an artist. If you ever need to reach me, I’ll probably be in the studio… arting.
